Zipper Galeria presents the exhibition Correspondências Visuais, by artists Marcelo Brodsky and Cássio Vasconcellos. The opening takes place on July 9 (Saturday), from 12PM.
The project Correspondencias Visuales was created by the Argentinian artist Marcelo Brodskyby sending photographs to, among other artists, Cássio Vasconcellos.
The initial question, which guides the project is: what happens when an image is sent to someone who responds with a new image? The show brings together the creative and cultural universes of each artist.
34 photographs taken from seven excerpts of this visual dialogue will be presented. The conversation starts from a formal characteristic of the original photo – a square, for instance, is reinterpreted as a window on the next picture – or from a conceptual link between the images. The window can receive the photograph of an airplane window as response, changing the tone of the conversation to aerial photos. This way, connections are built between forms and/or concepts.
The show gives to photography a new space for artistic consideration. At a time when new technologies and the immediacy condition the communication, Correspondências Visuais not only opens up a dialogue between artists – in which they move in a timeline of images with dialectical similarities – but introduces a introduces a new dimension of photography as language, creating an autonomous set of meanings. A meaning which is the result of confrontation, of provocation of two points of view that in their union, form a new artwork.
The complete conversation of images will be presented in a video projection.
