Pedro Varela Niterói - RJ, Brazil, b. 1981

Pedro Varela (Niterói, Brazil, 1981) lives and works in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro. The artist mixes literary references from the Baroque period in paintings that recall an imaginary tropical world. With a strong character of visual narratives, his works explore the idea of the exotic often associated with the tropics. In more recent series, Varela has alternated between paintings in vibrant shades and psychedelic shapes and others in palettes of reduced colors, such as monochromatic black, white and blue.

Pedro has works in the following collections: Coleção SESC (Sao Paulo-SP); Gilberto Chateaubriand/Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro (MAM-RJ); Montblanc México (Mexico City); Sprint Nextel Art Collection, Overland Park; Museu de Arte do Rio, Rio de Janeiro (MAR-RJ).
