João Castilho Belo Horizonte, Brazil, b. 1978

João Castilho (Belo Horizonte, Brazil, 1978) is a visual artist and works with photography, video, sculpting and installation. His production is inspired by cinema, literature, popular culture, the landscapes of the Brazilian Cerrado (tropical savannah), the relationship with nature, as well as everyday scenes and current themes.

 

The work of João Castilho is present in institutional collections such as Musée du Quai Branly, Paris; Pinacoteca do Estado, in São Paulo; Coleção Pirelli/MASP de Fotografia, São Paulo; and Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Rio de Janeiro. He was awarded by Fundação Conrado Wessel de Arte, in 2014, and by Bolsa de Fotografia, of Instituto Moreira Salles, in 2013. He was one of the artists selected for the 19º Festival de Arte Contemporânea Sesc_Videobrasil e da Bienal do Mercosulo, in 2015.
